VPD Launches Cold Case Website
The Vancouver Police Department has launched a new microsite designed to engage the public in helping to break open unsolved murders in Vancouver, BC.
The people profiled on the new website were murdered, and despite lengthy, complex investigations, their killers have not been caught.
“We’re encouraging the public to visit the site and look at the victim’s faces. Read their stories – these people were somebody’s mother, father, sister, brother, daughter, or son. People cared for them and they are deeply missed,” said. Det. Sally Davies of the VPD’s Homicide Unit.
The website features previously unseen crime scene photos, and will be updated regularly as new material becomes available for release.
Det. Davies notes that most of the unsolved murders occurred more than 10 years ago.
“There are people going about their daily lives, and hiding terrible secrets. While families suffer, never knowing the truth about their loved ones’ violent deaths, someone out there knows what happened. They might be the person responsible. They might be a witness. They might possess vital information. It’s a heavy burden to carry.”
“These families deserve justice and closure,” said Davies.
Anyone having a tip or wanting to talk to investigators about any of the cases featured on the website can contact the VPD Homicide Unit at (604) 717-2500 or coldcase@vpd.ca.
